When Merlin finally let him go, Dean turned on his side and curled up into a tight little ball, arms around himself to keep from getting tickled again. His boyfriend might be catching his breath to prepare for a second attack. His glare was playful and fond instead of actually annoyed.
"You wouldn't like my uncle. He's an asshole." Pretty much all of Dean's family were assholes. None of them accepted Dean's sexuality and he hadn't spoken to any of them since he turned eighteen and left Los Angeles. "You are the worst ever."
None of that was true. Dean was so stupidly in love with Merlin it was ridiculous. It was probably all over his face and in his expression. He was so glad he let him back into his life and started their relationship again. How boring and empty his life would be without Merlin.
"Here I thought we'd have a nice morning talking about magic but nope," he said shaking his head a little. "You turned on me."
Merlin remembered the story about Dean's relatives. He wasn't angry, not exactly, just disappointed. Disappointed in people he had never met because they had hurt Dean, yes.
He shook his head, eyes squinting as he seemed awfully thoughtful for a moment. "Funny," he said while reaching down to wrap his arms around Dean and pulled him up and over Merlin's chest. "All I heard was you're the best and how I turn you on. Baby, I understand, I am pretty sexy."
Merlin couldn't remember a time when he had been this happy. Maybe when he had been blissfully ignorant before all the bullshit at Courts started. But no, not really. That time had lacked what he and Dean had.
And what they had was kind of perfect in all its imperfections.
There was really no way to resist when Merlin drew him in. Dean tucked his head against his shoulder but he kept his arms protectively around himself instead of putting them around his lover.
"I'm going to stick with the worst," he said as he trailed kisses along his neck. "The most over protective, teasing, and distracting ever. That makes you the worst. And amazing."
Maybe it would all disappear one day but Dean wouldn't regret this. It was amazing that he could be this happy. Dean rested his chin on Merlin's chest and grinned at him. "You keep making all these pretty cards... I should write you a song."
He hadn't really written music in years but he knew that he could come up with something decent if he sat down and thought about it. Music was really the best way he knew how to express everything besides constantly jumping Merlin's bones.
Merlin rolled his eyes but not without an amused smile upon his lips. He tilted his head to the side to give Dean an easier access to his neck while brushing his hand down along Dean's back.
"I guess I can live with that, the worst and amazing. A contradiction. A mystery. I apologise for my hard to understand nature, love. I can't help it."
The talk about music made his eyes widen slightly and his smile grew awfully sappy for a moment. But then returned to to a toothy grin, pressed into Dean's fantastic case of bedhair.
Dean hummed a few bars of a melody before he started singing, his voice rich and perfectly in tune, "Your sugar, yes, please. Won't you come and put it down on me? I'm right here, 'cause I need little love, a little sympathy. Yeah, you show me good loving, make it alright, need a little sweetness in my life."
It was one of the popular pop songs on the radio that was always on in the club, not an original composition but Dean figured he could come up with more original lyrics later. It would take awhile, though, because Dean would put his heart, soul and being into the song. The only thing Dean loved more than music was his magic.
"I mean, that's just an example of something I could write," he said tilting his head up so he could kiss Merlin slowly. "Sugary sweet, that's you."
A smile dawned on Merlin's lips slow and sweet, just like the song. Dean had a really nice voice and it made shivers run down along his spine to listen to him. Music was like magic to him, mysterious how some people had it and some just didn't. He was in the latter category.
His hands rose to Dean's jaw and cupped it to keep him right there to give him a few more kisses. "I'd listen to you all day long," he murmured and nipped on Dean's bottom lip.
"Sing some more," he murmured while flipping them over again, raining kisses on Dean's chest and stomach.
It was hard to sing when Merlin kissed him but he appreciated the kissing in response to his voice. Music kept Dean sane in his darker days when he was scared and alone and so young. He kept practicing all the years since then. Now, he sang for happier reasons.
"I know your insides are feeling so hollow and it's a hard pill for you to swallow, yeah. But if I fall for you, I'll never recover If I fall for you, I'll never be the same. I really want to love somebody. I really want to dance the night away," Dean sang, trailing his fingers through Merlin's hair again. "I know we're only halfway there, but you can take me all the way, take me all the way."
There was a lot of pop music in Dean's head and he didn't mind singing all of them for Merlin. If he had any requests though he should make one.
He didn't. He was perfectly fine with Dean's selection. It was all pretty new to him. He was happy to hum against Dean's skin and trail a line of kisses down to his hips and down to his thighs, nipping here and sucking there.
These were pretty sappy songs and Merlin loved it. He might have been a little bit sappy all in all. Despil would laugh and laugh and never let him hear the end of it if he'd know but Merlin has no intention of informing his brother of the super cute morning music sessions he got to with his boyfriend.
One of these days, Dean really needed to meet Merlin's brother.
Dean stretched his arms over his head and closed his eyes while he sang just enjoying the sensation of Merlin's lips on his skin and the easy affection between them. This was going to be a favorite memory for the rest of his life.
"I am so in love with you," he said with a happy laugh. "Like, stupid in love with you."
He figured Merlin should know. It was important and real and if anything came for them Merlin should know. Dean really did love him. "That's how the song would start. Something about how stupid I am because I'm in love and the silly things I do because of it."
It wasn't exactly a surprise. Merlin had had a feeling for a while that they both cared for each other much more than just simply for a random hookup, or even being a little bit smitten. He had been in love before in his life and he knew how it felt. Though, the feeling was much easier and deeper with Dean than it had been with Julia, because she hadn't really known who he is.
Despite knowing, he still felt a bang of something warm and excited exploding in the pit of his stomach and he crawled up along Dean's body to stare down at him, light blue eyes open and soft as he gazed down at Dean's laughing face.
"I love you, too," he said simply while reaching up to curl his fingers around Dean's wrists and pressed his hands down to the mattress while leaning in to kiss him on the lips,
He would do so much to see Merlin look that happy, that smitten at him. Dean found himself blushing just a little without any real reason why. It just happened but it was good, a good feeling that caused it.
Even with his hands pinned he leaned up and met Merlin halfway for the kiss, going slow and steady and warm. He tried to say he loved him in the kiss. When the kiss ended he rubbed his nose against Merlin's, just being sweet and affectionate because he wanted to.
"I'm so glad you came back," he said softly. Life would be so different without Merlin around. Dean knew it just wouldn't be as good as it was now.
