Jean and T-shirt, [ Merlin replied with laughter. Maybe it was a NY thing. ] I'd dress casually when going out to clubbing, yes. [ Or maybe it's the twenty first century. ] Suit is expected when you're going out?
[ Merlin could change. It would take him a few minutes to drop back in Sawall ways and grab something to wear but he didn't want to risk it. Mandor might catch him and he'd be whisked away to some Courts business. ]
It depends on the club. My club? I like things a little more high class, a little fancier. [He nudged his shoulder against Merle's.] It creates an image, an idea that the club is fancy and exclusive and you're important if you get in. It's an image thing.
[When they got to Oddfellows there wasn't a huge line yet but Dean stepped away from Merle to talk to a few people in line, trade jokes, listen to people trying to get in. He whispered a few things to the bouncer before he took Merle's hand again and led him inside.]
Welcome to Oddfellows. [The club had distinct areas, the bar, the dance floor, seating and VIP. There was neon throughout but tasteful, not overwhelming. Dean beamed with pride as he looked around. This was his baby and he loved it.]
[ Watching Dean interact with other people was probably the most bizarre experience of this evening. Somehow Merlin didn't even know how to consider the idea of there being other people. Which was utterly strange and he should look into it.
But when Dean came back to him, he readily took that hand and followed him inside.
It was a lot of neon but Merlin had been around in the 80's, this wasn't exactly new kind of development. He grinned at Dean's obvious enthusiasm and gave the hand in his a firm squeeze. ]
Too much neon, [ he leaned in to say beside Dean's ear, then laughed and shook his head. ] No, just joking. I like it! You've done well with it.
You are such an asshole! [He shoved at Merle, laughing.] It's a sorcerer thing! You know, just for that you're not getting into the VIP section.
[Instead he led him towards the back office which was employees only and actually quiet so they could have a conversation without shouting over the music.]
So, this was a lot of fun. Best first date I've had in awhile.
...That is part of me too, [ Merlin laughed and gave into the shoving easily. ] And hey, that's cruel. I'm wounded.
[ The back looked like most of the backrooms in most of the bars out there. Maybe a little cleaner. Merlin followed in and figured he could ask Dean to let him out from back door if there was one. ]
I need to go back, too. I kind of stole a few hours for this but now I need to pay back so someone doesn't assassinate me before Sunday. Because this was, indeed, a lot of fun.
Is there a backdoor you could let me out of? I don't want to draw Logrus into this place and blow your wards away.
[He led him passed his office and storage where they kept alcohol, more glasses and other essentials to running a club. There was a small alley behind Oddfellows with dumpsters. It wasn't the classiest place to say goodbye but it was safe and private.]
Good luck with that avoiding assassination. I'd hate to miss that second date. [The goodbye was always a little awkward. Dean didn't know if they should shake hands or hug or something.]
[ As far as goodbyes go, it was just a fine place to do that.
And gladly for Dean, Merlin knew what to do. Or what he'd like to do. Not because he had a huge urge to go there but because he had made some calculations that this was the result he landed on. Don't ask, you probably wouldn't want to hear his thought process leading to this moment. ]
I'll be careful, [ he promised a bit dryly and maybe with a hint of a smirk flashing across that smart mouth.
Now it feels anti-climatic to say that Merlin paused before slipping out of the door to pull Dean close by a hand around his waist. A half hug, a half something else, ending with a soft press of lips against his forehead before Merlin disappeared from the door to the alley. ]

Until Sunday.
